Catching Leaves - Tiffany Loraine

chaotic how you fall apart

yet calm in how you stand your ground

as you shed your every piece

trembling branches rain with sound

maybe chills and bliss? Or fear

can explain the way you tremble here

the autumn breeze I can contest

tests shaky knees below my dress

but if confusing nerves and fear

the reason for my nerve’s unclear

from your loss, I’m bound to gain

the deepest sorrow for your pain

unless you’ve grown accustomed to

shedding lifeless parts of you

or maybe we will never know

to be proud or scared of letting go

so I’ll lie here on this rigid floor

and play your little game some more

hands and ego held up high

I smile and watch your leaves fly by

I’ll ask for a compelling sign

a connection to the Great Divine

but as time is slowly drifting by

I ache and question reasons why

you’ve invited me to play this game

if it were sure to end in pain

so before I go, I’d like to say

I’m thankful for your time today

sitting up, I look around

the evasive leaves spread on the ground

while looking up I say goodbye

and see one more take to the sky

I laugh, eyes closed, with no demands

as it lands directly in my hands

Welcome to my little corner of the world! My name is Tiffany. I am a passionate writer and animal lover based in Southern California. As an avid nature writer, I draw inspiration from the beauty of the natural world and the poetry of greats like Robert Frost, Mary Oliver, William B. Yeats, and Emily Dickinson, to name a few. With a BA in English and creative writing, I channel my love for literature into my writing, using nature as my muse. I foster a deep appreciation for both animals and the environment in my professional, personal, and creative endeavors.

As the founder and president of Cleo’s Kittens Inc., I devote my free time to rescuing and rehabilitating cats in need. I share my life with my friends, two playful dogs, and eleven affectionate cats, all of whom inspire my work in their own special way.
